How to check if you're shadowbanned
Reddit employs many different types of account states to combat spam and inauthentic activity. Sometimes, an account is not fully suspended, but its visibility is heavily restricted so that other users cannot see its posts or comments.
This shadowban checker performs an unauthenticated, public probe of the given Reddit username. It compares the public results with expected healthy behaviors to determine if the account has been suspended, deleted, or shadowbanned (spam-flagged).

What is a Reddit shadowban?
A shadowban hides your profile, posts, and comments from everyone except you. Unlike a suspension, which triggers a notification, a shadowban is silent. You can keep posting and commenting, thinking people can see your content. Nobody can.
Reddit built shadowbans to stop spammers. If a spammer doesn't know they're banned, they won't make a new account. The problem: the same system catches real new users who trigger the filters by accident.
You exist, but nobody sees you. Reddit's official term is a "site-wide suspension that appears to the user as if they are still participating normally."
r/ShadowBan is now read-only — here's how to check instead
For years, the standard way to check a shadowban was posting in r/ShadowBan. A bot would reply and tell you whether you were flagged. The subreddit went read-only in 2025, so you can no longer request a check there.
That leaves three options: check manually with an incognito window, file an appeal at reddit.com/appeal and hope a human looks, or run an automated checker like this one. Manual checks are slow and easy to misread. A profile that loads fine for you can still be hidden from everyone else.
The checker above does the same probe the old r/ShadowBan bot did: it requests your profile the way a logged-out stranger would see it.
What triggers a shadowban?
Reddit doesn't publish its detection rules. From what the community has pieced together, these are the common triggers:
- New account + immediate posting. Creating an account and posting within minutes is the single biggest red flag for Reddit's spam filters.
- Posting links too often. Accounts that share links to the same domain repeatedly across subreddits look like self-promotion bots.
- Identical comments across threads. Copy-pasting the same reply into multiple subreddits almost guarantees a spam flag.
- VPN or proxy usage. Some VPN IP ranges are flagged because spammers use them to create disposable accounts.
- Rapid-fire commenting. Posting 10+ comments in minutes from a low-karma account looks like bot behavior to Reddit's rate-limiting systems.
- Karma farming subreddits. Posting in communities like r/FreeKarma4You will get your account flagged by automated detection bots run by major subreddits.
Signs you might be shadowbanned
- Your comments get zero upvotes or replies, even in busy threads.
- Log out of Reddit and visit your profile page. If it says "page not found" or "suspended," you're shadowbanned.
- Your posts never show up in a subreddit's "new" feed when checked from another account or an incognito window.
- You link someone to a comment and they say they can't see it.
Run this checker after creating a new account or posting links. It catches the problem before you sink hours into invisible comments.
How to appeal a shadowban
- Go to reddit.com/appeal while logged into the shadowbanned account. This is Reddit's official appeals page.
- Pick "Account status" as the issue you need help with.
- Write something short. Say you think your account got flagged by mistake and you'd like someone to look at it. Reddit admins deal with thousands of angry appeals a day. Being brief and civil puts you ahead of the queue.
- Wait. Appeals take 1-2 weeks and actual humans review them. Stop posting on the account while you wait. Fresh activity can bump you back to the bottom of the queue.
- If the appeal doesn't work, Reddit almost never reverses a second one. Make a new account. Let it sit for a few days. Build karma slowly in subreddits that don't require it.

How this checker works
This tool makes a single unauthenticated request to Reddit's public profile endpoint. That request returns one of three states:
- Public / Active: Your profile loads normally for logged-out visitors. Posts and comments are visible.
- Shadowbanned / Suspended: Your profile returns a "page not found" or suspended response when accessed without authentication, even though you can still use the account normally when logged in.
- Deleted / Not Found: The username doesn't exist or the account has been permanently deleted.
The probe uses the same public data anyone with a browser can see. No login or account required.
